Resurrecting Your Android HTC M8 with Lineage Android Oreo 8.1


The HTC One M8 first released MArch 2014 stills remains one of HTC's best android phones released till date. It features a very impressive Qualcomm Snapdragon 801, quad-core CPUs, 2GB ram, MicroSD Memory Card for up to 128GB Additional Storage (Card Not Included), HTC UltraPixel Camera 5MP (HTC cams are one of the best), BSI Sensor, Wide Angle Lens with HDR Capability. It runs on Android 4.4 Kitkat stock rom modified by HTC. HTC has since ended support for newer devices but has allowed owners unlock their phones to try out better unofficial rom releases by other developers.

Android Oreo since released by Google on the android platform is known to be the best, fluid, beautiful and performance-driven operating system available on top newer smartphones like the google pixel. We always knew that a custom ROM based on Android 8.1 Oreo OS would become available eventually for the One M8, and that’s what has happened now. The Android 8.0 OS powered LineageOS 15 ROM is now available for One M8 users for download and install on their powerful beast.

MAKE SURE YOU BACK UP YOUR FILES BEFORE THESE PROCESSES

1. You have to unlock your phone's bootloader if this is the first time you are installing a custom rom

Visit HTC official developer website https://www.htcdev.com/bootloader/ and follow the instructions carefully to avoid bricking your device. If you are done with this process. Congratulations.Your device is ready to be modified.

2. Flash the latest TWRP (Custom Recovery) to your device


  • Download Latest TWRP Recovery from here.
  • Now flash the recovery image using fastboot.
  • Switch off your device and boot into recovery mode. (Press and hold power button with volume down button, you will boot to bootloader menu. Now use volume keys to navigate and power button to select and boot into recovery mode)
  • Now select Flash zip from SD card and select the zip file you just downloaded earlier.
  • Wait until the flash process completes and then reboot your phone.

  • 3. Download and install the custom rom on your device
